Nothing To See Here

What are these sneaky flowers doing with this innocent apple? The flowers look sweet but their showiness is suspicious to me. Why are they making so much noise, I wonder. And what does the plate have to do with it all? Hmmm....

Yellow Scattered - SOLD

Lately I've switched pretty exclusively to the Ampersand gessoboards. I personally LOVE the smooth surface (though it took some getting used to and does NOT work well with bristle brushes, in case you want to try them out). I've got a bunch of Raymar panels in varying sizes that I'd like to replace, so I am offering them for half what I got them for. I don't want to mess with shipping them, so I'm hoping I'll have some takers at my party tomorrow. They're great panels, especially for starting out. I used them for years, and was always very happy with both the panels and the service at Raymar.

Rising Roses

These two were tough to compose with. I went around and around with different containers, different angles, and different colored backgrounds. Oh and did I mention other objects in there with them? Some wise person once told me - if there is something in the composition that isn't actively helping the composition, take it out. So more often than not I end up with rather simple scenes. Like this one.

I'm heading out early tomorrow for Texas! I've got a workshop in San Antonio next week and I'm spending some extra time seeing my family. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Hogging the Spotlight

With these flowers I was really trying to suggest the 3 dimensions with some fairly broad strokes first, and then redefine them from the outside. I feel I've gotten a little too picky with them lately. I love the loose feel of them.

German Windowboxes

Here are more German windows, with flowers, as promised, from one of our wanderings. I was really attracted to the colors, and as usual I am totally in love with the light and shadows. Unfortunately, our trip is ending soon, BUT I've gotten tons of photos and I hope to use quite a few for some larger paintings coming up.

I figured I'd start with a still life for my first painting here in Germany. I found this bunny in St. Blasien in front of a store. It was so perfect next to the plant I took a picture and painted from that. I love all the grays and that cute face!
My friend, Jen, is holding another BUILD-A-BLOG class this weekend, and has also added some FREE newbie videos on her website. If you need some basic pointers about browsers, URL's and some important keyboard shortcuts, be sure to check it out!

Tonight I am posting a little early because my lovely husband is taking me out on a date! A much needed break for both of us. Toodles!

I remember years ago being in a museum and seeing a Seargant painting for the first time. It was huge and hung above my head (why?) ... and the lowest thing I could see was a wine glass sitting on a low table. He had painted that glass with about 10, simple brush strokes. Maybe less. I turned to my husband (we had just met) and I said "I want to do that. I want to suggest things with paint." I feel I have really achieved that with this vase. It's really just a few simple strokes, strategically placed, but I think it reads like glass. Yes?
