Chaperoned

See, the flower and the apple are in love, but they can't be trusted alone, so the brown bottle is chaperoning. And what's the fork there for you ask? Uhhhh...

Odd Company - SOLD

I've been saving this very cool green bottle for the perfect moment. It was a gift from a student, and I am very grateful to add it to my collection. Thank you!

Bowls Four Breakfast - SOLD, & workshop photos

I'm workin' 'em hard here in Sedona - crackin' the whip. At the end of each day they whimper and cry and slink away, but they always come back for more. I'm sure it's my charm. Below are a few photos, minus the whip ...

Way Past Five

This Wednesday at 11am CST my husband and I will be interviewed on Artists Helping Artists, again. : ) This time we have a big announcement - one I think some of ya'll will be particularly interested in. I'll announce it here as well, after the show, but if you want to hear it sooner be sure to listen in. We've been working on it for months and I've been itching to scream it from the rooftops!

I bet you didn't know it but at night our apples take guided tours of our cabinets. Yep.

Distorting the Edge

Tomorrow I am off to Seattle. I lived there for a year when I was 15/16, with some very nice folks who agreed to take me in (a teenager ... what were they thinking?!) and tomorrow I will visit them and generally apologize for the rotten kid I was. Then I am off to Whidbey Island for a 5-day workshop. I will post when I can. Please note the shipping of paintings will be delayed until I am back.

Wading to the Waist

I know this one might seem a little silly at first glance, but, well, it represents some very important stuff. Like ... social inequality and ... misguided expectations and ... internal peace. Yeah, like that.

Sitting Still

Right after I finished this one, as I was taking it off my easel, I managed to drop it on the floor - you got it - paint down! (sigh) What I have learned from past experience is - resist the temptation to get all the grit off while it's still wet!! If you wait until the paint is dry all the little bits come right off and usually the paint is just fine, as it was in this case.

Rising Roses

These two were tough to compose with. I went around and around with different containers, different angles, and different colored backgrounds. Oh and did I mention other objects in there with them? Some wise person once told me - if there is something in the composition that isn't actively helping the composition, take it out. So more often than not I end up with rather simple scenes. Like this one.

Queen Over All

My folks are visiting for a few days and we are trying to kill them with hikes. Yesterday we climbed the Butte here in town and today we drove to a canyon and hiked to a beautiful waterfall. Oregon is wonderousful!

You've probably noticed I've been into stacking apples lately. Here I've added a rose to complexify things.

After my post yesterday my friend James said the table he mentioned is suddenly out of stock, so he looked up 3 others and posted links at the bottom of his post.

Pink Reflections

I am so happy to have finally found cherries at the grocery store! Small, red and shiny - endlessly useful to the likes of this still life artist.

Hide Behind Stacks

Someone asked how I get the reflections at the bottom. I have a big piece of glass - just regular glass - that I put in the bottom of my shadow box. I tape the front edge and only handle it from that end so I don't cut myself. I generally put down my cloth or paper first so I have some color or something underneath. In this case I had a gray yellow behind and white underneath.

Nutcracker Balls

I apologize in advance if the title of this piece offends anyone. I couldn't possibly have been expected to resist.

It has taken me almost 3 months to get around to this, but one of things that happened right after the fire, when suddenly my blog was changed under my feet by blogger, was my blogroll (my list of links to other artists) was erased and lost forever. When I revamped my blog I made a short list of artists off the top of my head and stopped there. I've been meaning to ask - could you please email me with a link if I had you listed before? It may take me a while to piece it back together again. Please don't think I took you off to be mean, or if I take a while to add you back for the same reason.

Shipless

You'll never believe my luck! Someone wrote to me after my last post and said they had an entire set of these ship-guys (just like what I had) and is looking to get rid of them!! Thank you, Lilly!

Where's My Ship?

Don't you hate it when you wake up in the morning and your dang ship is missing? I can identify with this captain. I found him at a thrift store near my folks a couple months ago. There was a whole set, all wood, all different, and after painting this one I asked my mom to buy the rest and ship them to me. Unfortunately, they got to my house right before the fire. I did paint this guy twice - I'll post the other one tomorrow.

Bowl of Sunshine & Tomato Lover

UPDATE: Unfortunately the painting below is no longer available - I didn't take any of my larger paintings before the fire...
The painting below is 12x12 inches, on gessoboard. I am putting it in the Daily Paintworks, Help the Children of Africa auction. They say hundreds of thousands of children are starving because of the current drought. I know it's half a world away, but children are children. If you can help by donating or bidding they would be very grateful!

Ganging Up On Glass

I think I got my apple values more correct here (vs. yesterday's). The glass was tough because the bottle's a bit dimpled ... so I just squinted a lot. All-in-all I'm quite pleased with this one.

Rioting Apples

I'm back to my old tricks again - my old comfort zone - apples and forks and plates and bowls. I am very happy here for the time being.
We had some recent cancellations for my upcoming Jacksonville, FL workshop and a spot opened up. The dates are October 17-21, 2011, and you would need to contact Eileen if you are interested. Thanks!
